Baird Bankovic

Applied and Engineering Physics

Overview

I am a PhD student who started working with Gordon Stacey's group in 2025. I primarily work on two projects, the Fred Young Submillimeter Telescope (FYST), and Planetary Origins & Evolution Multispectral Monochromator (POEMM). For both telescopes, I work on silicon-based far-IR interferometer optics + fabrication. In addition, I support a variety of electronics, mechanics, and fabrication for EoR-Spec, a detector module for FYST.

I have a bachelor's of science in physics from Penn State University, where I worked on scanning probe microscopes, scanning tunneling primarily.

Outside of work, I enjoy working on electronics, 3d printers, running, and cycling. You will find me out doing astrophotography about once a month, or when there are interesting targets to observe. Through this, I am also active in outreach events.
