We are hosting a special symposium on September 17th 2026, celebrating both scientific discovery at Cornell and the partnerships that make our work possible!
Cornell has long stood at the forefront of planetary science and public engagement from the transformative influence of Carl Sagan to today’s faculty and students advancing NASA missions and research into exoplanets, cosmology, instrumentation, and extreme astrophysics. Just as importantly, Cornell has embraced the responsibility to communicate science clearly and compellingly to the public through our many outreach activities like the Carl Sagan Institute, the Spacecraft Planetary Image Facility, and the Cornell Astronomical Society to name a few.
This year’s symposium (titled 'From Origins to Life') will convene our Friends of Astronomy community alongside members of the College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council, and university leadership. We will also be celebrating our most recent accomplishment, a sub-millimeter telescope in Chile that will have first light this year
