Located in the heart of New York state’s Finger Lakes region, at the southern tip of Cayuga lake, Ithaca is a great place to spend the summer. This fun, culturally exciting city is home to Cornell University, Ithaca College and a vibrant local community. It has many of the advantages of a small town and many of the resources you would find in a bigger city. You can get a sense of what it's like at Ithaca.com and at the Cornell and Ithaca College websites.

In addition to our own REU activities, there are a lot places to go on and near campus, including gyms, plenty of open spaces (great for ultimate frisbee), excellent dining, the Plantations, and the Ornithology Lab. If you're in the mood, there's always a variety of lectures and exhibits to choose from.

Off campus there are a lot of activities in town during the summer, and the area is a great place to be if you enjoy the outdoors. There's Cayuga Lake if you're into sailing or just to take a walk, the famous Ithaca gorges and a lot of other hiking areas or the farmer's market if that's something that interests you. The Ithaca Times lists all kinds of activities in town.

With plenty of restaurants, music events, arts theaters, movies, museums and galleries, festivals in town and in Trumansburg plus all of Cornell's and Ithaca College's events, there’s a lot to do. Usually the problem is not enough time!
