NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program for Graduate Students

The NASA Aeronautics Mission Directorate is offering two-year graduate scholarships, with a third-year option based on academic standing and programmatic requirements. Students awarded scholarships will be provided the opportunity for two 8-to 10-week internships performing aeronautical research at a NASA center during the first two years they are enrolled in the program. Each scholarship award includes:

• Up to $35,000 awarded for each school year, to be used for tuition, room and board, or other school-related costs.
• Summer internship at a NASA Research Center with a stipend in an amount up to $10,000, not to exceed two internships.

General Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicants must have received or be on track to receive their bachelor's degrees by Fall 2008. Scholarship awardees selected in Spring 2008 must begin their fellowship tenure by Fall 2008.
• Potential applicants to the program may be in their final year of undergraduate study and already accepted into a master’s or doctoral program, or they may be currently enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program but have not received their degree as of Fall, 2008.
• The program is open only to applicants who are citizens or nationals of the United States. The term "nationals" refers to native residents of a possession of the United States such as American Samoa. It does not refer to a citizen of another country who has applied for U.S. citizenship. Persons who hold permanent resident status are not eligible. Proof of citizenship will be required upon formal offer.

Dr. Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Space Science Education

The Gerald A. Soffen Memorial Fund is pleased to announce the first of two 2008 Travel Grant application opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing studies in fields of space science and engineering. The Travel Grants, in the amount of $500, enable student recipients to attend professional meetings to present their research. The first 2008 Travel Grant application deadline is April 1, 2008.

Jerry Soffen, a biologist by training, led a distinguished career in NASA, including serving as the Project Scientist for Viking and as an architect for the NASA Astrobiology Institute. The Travel Grant continues Jerry’s dedication to educating and involving future generations in space science and engineering pursuits.
