Will focus primarily on the Solar System, but some topics beyond the solar system, including extrasolar planets.

We received funding from the NYS Education Department for a summer institute for middle school science teachers. The teachers will be here for 5 days. They will be doing the lessons and activities in the new GEMS Space Science Core Curriculum Sequence, meeting scientists, visiting labs, etc. Please let Nancy know if you are interested in helping.

Monday (~11-1) - GEMS Oobleck activity (what does a scientist do?) - Ann Martin will help
Monday (~1-1:30) - Strange New Planet - Rick
Tuesday afternoon - lab visits, mini-lectures, activities with scientists -
Wednesday afternoon - lab visits, mini-lectures, activities with scientists - Mars and light, Diane and Shoshe
Wednesday lunch with grad students and post docs -
Friday morning - scientist panel for Q & A

Upward Bound visit

A group of 10 high school students from the Cornell Upward Bound program. A different group will visit each Tuesday afternoon for five weeks. We want to expose them to research and what you do as a scientist. Lab visits, demos, etc.
