It is assumed that all students have taken (or, in the case of freshmen, are taking) writing seminars. You are Ivy League students; we have high expectations for your writing. A sample essay will be handed out in class. We strongly recommend that you go to the Writing Walk-In Service, especially for your first essay. Shoshe can answer questions and (quickly) check over your paper during office hours.

All papers are required to consist of original work. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated!
- Cutting and pasting from websites without proper attribution is plagiarism.
- Constructing an essay from other people's sentences, even if you cite the author(s), is plagiarism.

This is, of course, an incomplete list. Graders will be quite thorough in checking each paper for originality. They're very good at recognizing suspicious text, and very good at using search engines! Multiple students were caught plagiarizing and punished the last time this course was offered. The penalty for plagiarism will be an F on the paper the first time it happens, and an F in the course the second time it happens.

If you have a legitimate reason for needing an extension, contact Shoshe as soon as possible, and no later than 5pm the night before the assignment is due.
Extensions for paper due dates will be granted only in case of:
- Illness
- Family emergency
- Religious holiday
There are no exceptions!
