There is no compulsory textbook for this course. Exams and problem sets are based on the lecture notes.
The following, optional textbook is a good complement to the lecture notes:
(Optional but recommended) Astronomy: A Physical Perspective (2nd edition) by Marc Kutner
This book can be found on reserve in the Cornell Library.

Lecure notes, problem sets, and any additional details will be posted on Blackboard.
   
Office Hours: Tuesday 11:00 am - 12:00 pm and Monday/Wednesday after class (SSB 220; other times by appointment)
Final Exam: To be announced (The time and location will be posted here as well.)
   
   

A2211 will cover the following broad topics:
- Cosmic Evolution from the Big Bang onwards
- Galaxy Structure, Formation & Evolution
- Stellar Death: White Dwarfs, Neutron Stars & Black Holes
- Stellar Structure, Formation & Evolution
- Quantum Physics & Particle Physics in Astrophysics (only introductory calculus is assumed)
- Current Space Missions & Surveys

Notes will be posted for each lecture.
