ASTR2211: Astronomy: Stars, Galaxies & Cosmology

This course offers an introduction to astrophysics aimed at prospective science and engineering majors. It covers the physics of star formation, structure, evolution and death (white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes); galaxy formation and structure; the observational properties of stars and galaxies; and the cosmological composition and evolution of the universe as a whole. This course is a slightly more mathematical and physics-oriented alternative to Astro. 1101/1103.
Optional course texts are: "Foundations of Astrophysics" by Ryden and Peterson and "Astrophysics in a Nutshell" by Maoz.
